Lawrence is right here in the middle of the continental United States, and conveniently located on Interstate 70 just 30 minutes west of Kansas City and 20 minutes east of Topeka, the state capital.
Kansas City International Airport (in Kansas City Missouri) is a comfortable 45-minute drive on a series of four-lane interstate highways. Fourteen major airlines operate out of KCI, offering 46 nonstop flights across the United States.
The Lawrence Municipal Airport is a general aviation facility located approximately three miles north of downtown Lawrence on East US Hwy 24/40.
An uncontrolled airfield, Lawrence Municipal Airport averages more than 100 daily flight operations of single-engine, twin-engine and business jets. With the assistance of a 5,700 feet runway and Class I Instrument Landing System, it is an outstanding all-weather airport for recreational or business flyers.
A complete range of aviation services are available, including aircraft rental, flight instruction, hangar rental and a full-service Fixed Base Operator seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Public Transit
Lawrence Transit System is a service of the City of Lawrence and works in conjunction with the University of Kansas’ KU on Wheels transit system to provide safe, convenient, affordable, reliable and responsive public transportation.

SafeRide and SafeBus are available for University of Kansas students (Your KU ID number is your ticket to a safe ride home.)
SafeRide is a demand-response service where students called in to schedule a ride, giving students a ride home from anywhere within the city limits. It operate 3-8 cars, depending on the night of the week, from 10:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m.
SafeRide runs from 10:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. 7 nights a week while classes are in session during the Fall and Spring semesters.
SafeRide runs from 10:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights while classes are in session during the Summer semesters.

SafeBus has four fixed routes connecting campus, downtown, and student residential areas with the highest density of SafeRide rides.
SafeBus service is for KU students and operates from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday throughout both the Fall and Spring Semesters.
There is a limit of one non-student guest per student passenger.
